        Solar Decathlon 2010
        The 2010 Solar Decathlon Europe competition was held in Madrid, Spain and challenged 17 university teams from all over the world to build smart, innovative, solar powered homes. Schneider Electric was one of four main sponsors of the 2010 competition and donated several energy management products and solutions as well as micro-grid technology and engineering services.

        Solar Decathlon 2009
        The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon challenges 20 collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered homes. In 2009, Schneider Electric donated several energy management products and solutions as well as micro-grid technology.
         
         
         
         
         

        Solar Decathlon is one of the largest global university competition focused on energy management in homes. It takes place biennially and challenges collegiate teams who design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective and energy-efficient. The winner of the competition is the team that best blends affordability, consumer appeal, and design excellence with maximum  efficiency.

        As a Sustaining Sponsor of the Solar Decathlon, Schneider Electric supplies the design and engineering services, as well as the electrical distribution equipment required to connect the solar village to the utility service for the duration of the event. In addition, many of the competing homes feature Schneider Electric energy management products.

        The event is open to the public free of charge. Visitors can tour the houses, gather ideas to use in their own homes, and learn how energy-saving equipment can help them save money.

        Versailles - Solar Decathlon Europe 2014 

         

        The 2014 Solar Decathlon Europe Competition provided an excellent training opportunity for future engineers and energy managers from around the world, and also inspired the general population to learn more about global energy consumption. The event took place in Versailles, France from 28th June - 14th July 2014 hosting over 800 students from 16 countries and thousands of visitors at the Solar Village called "la Cite du Soleil".

        Solar Decathlon Europe gave students from around the world the opportunity to showcase their innovation and represent the future leadership of energy management. Not only were the homes they created a model of energy efficiency and powered by renewable energy, but they were also beautifully designed.

        Schneider Electric as a diamond sponsor of this event was able to showcase their solutions to the public by sponsoring 13 houses in competition, providing a smart mobility center with electric vehicle charging stations, and installing a micro grid which provides the connection between the solar village the the local utility. The energy consumption of the village was also visible through the Schneider Electric "Smart City Live App" which was available to the public on any smart phone.

        We are very proud of all of the teams that competed in this years competition, and thrilled that two of the top three teams were sponsored by Schneider Electric: Team Italy and Team France – Atlantic Challenge.

        • First Place: Team Italy (Universita degli Studi di Roma TRE)
        • Second Place: France/Atlantic Challenge (Schools from Nantes region of France)
        • Third Place: Team Netherlands (Delft University of Technology)
         
         



        U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2013

        The 9th edition of the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon took place from October 3rd to October 13th, 2013 at Orange County Great Park in Irvine, California, United States.

        While many applications were submitted, only the top 20 teams were hand selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to build a solar-powered house with the help of faculty advisors, partners, and sponsors. As a sustaining sponsor since 2007, Schneider Electric provided time, monetary, and product donations to select teams.

        Students participating in the event had an opportunity to collaborate with the U.S. Department of Energy and industry-leading construction and buildings companies. Schneider Electric was able to educate students and the public about the money-saving opportunities and environmental benefits presented by clean-energy products and design solutions. In addition, the competition showcased a complete smart grid granting visitors visibility of real-time electricity usage of the solar village.

        • Nr 2 Team Las Vegas (University of Nevada Las Vegas)
        • Nr 3 Team Czech Republic (Czech Technical University)

        In August 2013, Solar Decathlon for the first time took place in Datong, China following a Memorandum of Understanding between the United States Department of Energy, China National Energy Administration and Peking University.

        Schneider Electric offered products and technical support to the event - the most international Solar Decathlon edition ever with 13 countries from 4 continents.

        Schneider Electric sponsored 4 top winning teams with full solutions and technical advice.

        After 10 days of competition and almost 2 years of hard work, the results were disclosed during the award ceremony:

        • Nr2 China (South China University of Technology and Huazhong University of Science and Technology)
        • Nr3 Sweden (Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg)
        • Nr4 Israel (Tel Aviv University, Shenkar College of Engineering and Design, Neri Bloomfield School of Design and Education, College of Management Academic Studies)
