CO2 emissions

30,000 tons annual reduction of our CO2 equivalent emissions

120,218  tons of CO2 equivalent saved between January 2009 and the end of the first quarter of 2011.

Schneider Electric has set itself the following progress objectives:

  • Reduce industrial SF6 leaks to 1.2% on the sites concerned (4.6% in 2008);
  • Reduce energy consumption on our manufacturing, logistics and tertiary sites by 4% each year;
  • Reduce the share of international freight transported by air to 20% (35% in 2008).

Together, all these objectives aim to reduce our annual CO2 emissions by 30,000 tons (same scope as in 2008).

The companies’ activities produce greenhouse gas emissions directly or indirectly. They are mainly caused by the combustion of fossil fuels for energy (fuel, gas, coal, etc.). By reducing these greenhouse gas emissions, the companies can achieve a double objective:

  • Reduce their impact on climate change;
  • Reduce the energy intensity of their activities, which can be high in terms of cost.
Schneider Electric has calculated the carbon footprint of all its 2007 activities. The progress plan constitutes Schneider Electric's first global actions aiming at reducing its CO2 emissions in the areas where it has reliable and consolidated indicators.

Scope Constant perimeter year over year.
Action plan on SF6 leaks: all sites using SF6 gas in its manufacturing process.
Action plan on energy consumption: manufacturing and logistics sites with more than 50 workers, tertiary sites with more than 300 workers.
Action plan on air-sea freight: all long distance flows from French international distribution centre.
Calculation (∑Current emissions with year N-1 ratios) – (∑Cumulative current emissions)
Ratios: % of SF6 leaks compared to SF6 purchases over the period, % of sea freight in air-sea freight
CO2 is the reference unit for calculating greenhouse gas emissions. All the emissions are calculated in equivalent CO2 tons.
